A recent announcement by Saskatchewan about expanding the eligibility of Permanent Residence applicants under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) will help more skilled workers immigrate to the province.
Saskatchewan aims to meet labor market demands by increasing the workforce through skilled immigration. More international skilled workers can now seek permanent residence in the province by applying under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP).
The existing Work Permit stream of SINP will allow overseas workers in Saskatchewan in lower-skilled and intermediate occupations to apply for permanent residence. These workers can qualify for the SINP by meeting the basic eligibility requirements of Saskatchewan’s provincial nominee program.
The new announcement to expand the eligibility for the work permit stream will increase the number of eligible occupations by over 279. The new occupations comprise nurse aides, retail sales employees, farm laborers, and truck drivers.
Expansion of the Work Permit stream’s eligibility will benefit the workers as they can apply for permanent residence by meeting basic eligibility requirements.
The move to include more occupations will help low-skilled and intermediate workers in Saskatchewan become permanent residents. It will help Saskatchewan address acute labor shortages by retaining skilled workers and facilitating their immigration as permanent residents.
