In January 2023, Canada welcomed almost 60 percent more new immigrants under the Parents and Grandparents Program than in January 2022.
The year 2023 began with a positive note for the Parents and Grandparents Program as the number of new immigrants arriving under the PGP rose to 2,065 from 1,300 in January last year. It is a whopping 57.3 percent growth in Canada’s PGP immigration.
Canada aims to welcome 28.500 new permanent immigrants under the Parents and Grandparents Program. PGP immigration helped 27,255 new immigrants to arrive in Canada in 2022. It was 132 percent, up from the number of PGP immigrants arriving in 2021. The growth was mainly because of pandemic restrictions in 2021.
Canada sets ambitious immigration targets
The number of new immigrants arriving in Canada grew by 44 percent in January compared to the last year’s figures. In January 2023, Canada welcomed 50,885 new immigrants against 35,450 new permanent residents in January 2022. According to Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan 2023-25, Canada has plans to bring 465,000 new immigrants in 2023.
The Family Sponsorship category of Canada’s immigration includes parents, grandparents, spouses, children, and common-law partners. The Family Sponsorship category covers the Parents and Grandparents Program. Canada has an ambitious target to welcome 106,500 new immigrants in 2023 under various Family Sponsorship programs. It welcomed 13,000 new permanent residents through Family Sponsorship pathways up till now.
