Ontario introduced a few changes to the International Student Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program in 2024.
Ontario is revising the OINP eligibility standards for students seeking permanent residence status under its International Students Stream. The change will not affect those who applied to the International Student Stream before 2024.
Students need not get the mandatory one-year certificate from an approved institution, which was the essential eligibility requirement for admission through the International Student Stream of OINP. The new change allows students to complete any one-year Graduate Certificate program to become eligible for OINP’s International Student stream.
Most certificate programs were not eligible for the International Student program. However, the new change will make most one-year graduate programs eligible for the OINP’s International Student stream.
The International Student stream allows recent graduates from anywhere in Canada to become permanent residents and settle in Ontario. International students studying within or outside Canada and having a valid job offer in a skilled occupation can receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence.
