Ontario May Ban Employers Mandating Canadian Work Experience in Job Postings

Ontario is considering a ban on employers that require applicants to have Canadian work experience as a criterion for application.

Ontario employers may face a ban for posting Canadian work experience as a requirement in their job ads or application forms. The move aims at helping overseas skilled workers find relevant employment in Ontario without Canadian work experience.

The provincial government of Ontario is helping new immigrants support families by securing jobs that match their experience and education.  Getting a job that matches the applicant’s skills is a win-win situation for the provincial economy and the candidate’s career.

The province will revise the eligibility criteria for one-year college graduate programs to facilitate international students becoming permanent residents by applying under the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program.

Ontario plans to increase the number of overseas students in the province having eligibility for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP). The federal government raised Ontario’s allocation of provincial nominations. Ontario will be welcoming over 18,000 new immigrants through OINP by 2025. The PNP quota is more than twice compared to the 2021 allocation.
