July Express Entry Draw Sees Increase in CRS Score for Trade Occupations

Canada has conducted a new Express Entry draw, issuing 1,800 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for trade occupations. This draw, held on July 4, 2024, marked the second Express Entry draw in July.

The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required for this draw was 436 points. This represents an increase of 11 points compared to the previous Trade Occupations draw on December 19, 2023, which had a minimum CRS score of 425 points and issued 1,000 ITAs.

The most recent draw before this was a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw on July 2, 2024, which issued 920 ITAs with a minimum CRS score of 739. This continued a trend of targeted draws that Canada has employed over the past few years to address specific labor market needs.

In 2023, Canada conducted 19 all-program draws, five PNP draws, six draws targeted at French speakers, three for healthcare occupations, two for STEM occupations, two for skilled trades, two for transport jobs, two for agriculture and agri-food occupations, and one for Federal Skilled Worker candidates.

This year, there have been nine all-program draws, four targeted at French speakers, and draws focused on transport jobs, agriculture, healthcare, STEM, and trade occupations. In addition, there have been three PNP draws and one for Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 110,266 ITAs in 2023, significantly up from the 45,115 issued in 2022. The record stands at 114,431 ITAs issued in 2021, surpassing 107,350 set in 2020.

Canada’s immigration target for 2023 was a record 465,000, which is expected to be surpassed with a new target of 485,000 permanent residency invites in 2024.

The July 4 draw also implemented a tie-breaking rule set on July 16, 2023, at 11:45 am EST, ensuring that only those who submitted their profiles before this date and time received invitations.

This draw marked the 22nd round of invitations under Express Entry in 2024 and the 300th overall. Candidates have 60 days to submit their applications, which will be processed within the six-month standard.

Employers are encouraged to secure long-term LMIA or provincial nominations to retain employees. An approved job offer remains one of the best pathways to securing an ITA in upcoming rounds.
