IRCC Introduces Key Improvements In The Immigration Application Processing Time Tool

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is improving its online processing times tool to positively change Canada’s immigration system. This will help new applicants predict application processing durations accurately.

The improved tool will provide forward-looking processing time estimates. It will show the waiting time for clients applying to receive a final decision on their immigration application or citizenship grant. These estimates will be updated monthly to offer clients realistic and current information for better travel and life arrangements planning.

Applications currently covered by these processing time estimates include

  • Canadian Experience Class (Express Entry)
  • Provincial Nominees Program (Express Entry and non-Express Entry)
  • Federal Skilled Workers (Express Entry)
  • Quebec Skilled Workers

Others include citizenship grants, citizenship certificates (proof of citizenship), spouses or common-law partners residing in Canada, spouses, common-law, or conjugal partners living outside Canada, and parents or grandparents.

For application types not listed, IRCC will continue to utilize historical processing times, calculated based on past application processing durations.

Factors influencing processing times include application completeness, IRCC’s existing application processing speed, information verification efficiency, applicant response times to requests or concerns, and other variables.

The tool’s forward-looking estimates may show processing times shorter than an applicant’s current wait duration, as it depicts the waiting period for a new application submitted today, starting from the end of the queue.

IRCC recommends a pause on submitting new applications, as they would be placed at the end of the queue. It emphasizes that processing times fluctuate due to various factors throughout the year.
