Increasing Number of International Students Prefer Calgary to Study and Settle in Alberta

Calgary emerges as the primary driver of Alberta immigration, as more international students choose Alberta’s largest city to study, work, and settle in Canada.

The recent Global Livability Index made Calgary the third most livable city in the world. However, it is not the only reason why 32,600 international students selected Calgary to pursue world-class education in 2021.

Calgary is Alberta’s young and vibrant city, experiencing sunshine for most of the year. It is the third-most diverse city in Canada, speaking over 120 languages. International students can easily mingle with the young population of Calgary, as its median age is only about 38 years.

The new policy to remove the cap on off-campus work helps students become financially independent while gaining Canadian work experience. It brightens their prospects of becoming permanent residents after their education.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) identifies over 60 Designated Learning Institutions in Calgary offering top-class education. An acceptance letter from a DLI is crucial to qualify for a Canadian study permit.

International students aspiring to settle in Canada should select a study program assuring a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) to enrich their Canadian work experience by extending their stay by three years after graduation. Canadian study and work experience are vital factors to settling in Canada by getting permanent residence under myriad federal and provincial PR programs.
