The new Express Entry selection by category-based draws will encourage the immigration of candidates with work experience in healthcare.
Healthcare is among the priority occupations Canada targets through the proposed category-specific Express Entry draws. Immigration is the primary source to fill job positions in Canada’s healthcare sector. The healthcare sector is struggling with the most job vacancies, as there were 143,695 vacant job positions in the last quarter of 2022.
A whopping 25 percent of registered nurses and 36 percent of physicians were born outside Canada, underling the significant contribution of immigration to Canada’s healthcare system. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) strives to facilitate healthcare professionals living in Canada on a temporary resident visa.
A healthcare professional must meet the following criteria to become eligible for selection through the new category-based Express Entry draw:
- Have six months of continuous work experience within the last three years
- Be eligible for Express Entry draw through the main federal economic immigration programs
Category-based draws will leverage the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores to select the top-ranking profiles for Invitation to Apply for permanent residence. The CRS scores will continue to apply for the Express Entry selection in the category-based draws.
