Quebec is considering changes to its post-secondary education system from 2024.
Changes to Quebec’s post-secondary education system are on the anvil as per inputs from multiple outlets. These changes will also impact Quebec’s student immigration programs.
Quebec is the only French-speaking province in Canada. McGill, Concordia, and Bishop’s are the three English universities in Quebec. Beginning in Fall 2024, the tuition fees for these institutions will be double that of out-of-province candidates, including international and domestic Canadian students.
The step to hike tuition fees aims at arresting the decline of the French language in the only French-speaking province of Canada. Starting in Fall 2024, undergraduate and graduate students pursuing their programs will be subject to increased fees.
There will be changes to the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ) with an addition of a fast-track option targeting French-speaking international students with a French education background. These students can apply to the Quebec Experience Program after completing their studies instead of getting the mandatory work experience of 12 to 18 months.
French language proficiency will be crucial for all Quebec immigration programs in the future. It will help Quebec attract Francophone immigrants to preserve the province’s French flavor.
