Canada’s Agri-food Pilot Program to Start Accepting New Applications from January 1, 2024

Canada will open the Agri-food Pilot Program for new applications on January 1, 2024, allowing a maximum of 2,750 applications as the annual quota.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) operates sector-specific pilot programs to attract skilled and non-seasonal workers in specific sectors, including agriculture and Agri-food. These limited-duration programs help eligible candidates become Canadian permanent residents.

The Agri-food Pilot came into existence in 2020 as a three-year program. There was an extension of the program until 2025, following its success in improving the labor supply in the agri-food sector. The recent modification facilitates family members of the Agri-food Pilot Program’s applicants to become permanent residents.

Canada leverages the Agri-food Pilot to meet labor demands in the agri-food industry. Candidates having a full-time job offer from a Canadian employer qualify to apply for the pilot. The program mandates applicants to meet minimum educational and language requirements.

Agri-food pilot is a suitable pathway to permanent residency for agricultural workers. It helps Canada attract experienced labor to meet seasonal labor demands in the agri-food industry.
