Canada to Roll Out Two New Immigration Pathways in January 2024

New applicants can apply for Canadian permanent residency under two new immigration pathways, effective January 2024.

Canada will open two new immigration pilots comprising a Caregiver Pilot and an Agri-food pilot to new applicants. There will be a limited number of spots to enable eligible applicants meeting specific qualifying criteria of the pilot programs to apply for the pilot programs.

Caregiver Pilot

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada operates two caregiver pilots each year with annual caps on the number of spots:

  • Home Support Caregiver Pilot program
  • Home Childcare Provider Pilot program

The total number of spots for the Home Support Pilot program this year is 5,500 applications. It’s worth noting these pilot programs fill up quickly due to high demand.

IRCC relaxed the qualifying criteria from the previous 24-month to 12-month experience for the in-Canada Caregiver Provider Pilot programs.

Agri-food Pilot

IRCC will reset the annual cap for the Agri-food pilot program in January 2024. The yearly intake quota for the Agri-food pilot program is 2,500 applications. Applicants receiving Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR) can ask their accompanying family members to apply for an open work permit.

At least a year’s experience in specific Agri-food occupations is a necessary criterion to apply for permanent residence under the Agri-food program. Learn more about Canada’s pilot immigration pathways to become a permanent resident. Get a free assessment here.
