Canada will issue invitations to 23,100 Parent and Grandparent Program applicants in mid-October. The applicants are from the 2020 intake period. The federal government hopes to accept a maximum of 15,000 applications that are complete in every respect.
Canada has a massive backlog of 155,313 prospective sponsors from the 2020 pool. New sponsors willing to submit interest to sponsor application forms will have no opportunity in 2022. The new invitations will only refer to candidates submitting sponsor forms in 2020.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) emails sponsors from the 2020 intake period. The email address will be the one on the sponsor form. Sponsors who changed their email addresses after 2020 need to update fresh email addresses for communication on the relevant services portal of IRCCC.
Steps after receiving an invitation
Sponsors belonging to the Parents and Grandparents Program from the 2020 intake period need to submit two separate applications after receiving an invitation through an email communication from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
- Application to become a sponsor
- Application by parents or grandparents to become permanent residents in Canada
The sponsors must submit the two applications together by using the online method. Interested sponsors may visit the IRCC portal to learn more about the procedure. The last date for submitting online applications is December 24, 2022.
New aspiring sponsors should wait for the information to submit fresh Interest to Sponsor forms. Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is clearing the long waiting list of sponsors from the 2020 intake period.
