Canada Targets French-Language Speakers with Express Entry Draw, Issuing 3,200 ITAs

Canada has recently conducted an Express Entry draw focused on French language proficiency, issuing 3,200 Invitations to Apply (ITAs). The draw, held on July 8, required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 420 points.

This is a slight increase from the previous French language proficiency draw on April 24, 2024, which had a minimum CRS score of 410 points and issued 1,400 ITAs.

The July 5, 2024, draw targeted healthcare occupations, issuing 3,740 ITAs with a minimum CRS of 445. This year, Canada has conducted various targeted draws, including nine all-program draws, five for French speakers, and others focusing on transport, agriculture, healthcare, STEM, provincial nominations (PNPs), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and trade occupations.

Canada’s immigration targets are ambitious. A record 465,000 invites are planned for 2023, which will be surpassed by a target of 485,000 permanent residency invites in 2024.

The latest draw implemented a tie-breaking rule: if multiple candidates had the minimum CRS score, only those who submitted their Express Entry profiles before the tie-breaking date received invitations.

The July 8 draw marks the 24th round of invitations under Express Entry in 2024 and the 302nd overall. Successful candidates have a 60-day window to submit their applications, which will be processed within the standard six-month timeframe.

Employers are encouraged to secure a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or a provincial nomination to retain employees long-term. Obtaining an approved offer of employment is highly recommended as it significantly increases the chances of receiving an ITA in future rounds.
