Canada plans to support the immigration of more caregivers by reducing the work experience requirement from two years to one year.
Canada’s Immigration Minister, Hon. Sean Fraser observed that caregivers play a vital role in society by looking after aging parents, growing children, and persons requiring care. The decision to halve the work experience requirement will help Canada welcome more caregivers and their families. They can settle in Canada by exploring permanent residency options and begin new lives.
The reduction in work experience requirement will be effective from April 30, 2023. It will also benefit caregiver immigration applications under process, with a retrospective effect. Over 1600 caregivers and their families became eligible for permanent residence through the pilot programs since their launch in 2019.
The Home Child Care Provider (HCCP) and Home Support Worker (HSW) pilot programs will further boost the immigration of more caregivers who become permanent residents when the new change comes into force in April 2023.
Candidates with valid job offers, CLB 5 language proficiency, and one-year post-secondary qualification are eligible to apply for Home Child Care Provider (HCCP) and Home Support Worker (HSW) pilots. They can apply for permanent residency by securing an occupation-specific work permit and relevant work experience.
The new change to the eligibility requirement will benefit caregivers providing services in Canada and those who are about to begin working in the field. Up to ninety percent of applications will receive a boost by improving the processing times.
