Beginning August 10, 2023, applicants of Student Direct Stream have a choice of four new language tests to get a study visa.
Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) began accepting four new language tests for Student Direct Stream applicants. These are:
- Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL)
- Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program General (CELPIP)
- Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT)
- Pearson Test of English Academic (PET)
The following total scores are mandatory to get a student visa via the Student Direct Stream Program:
- CAEL tests – 60
- CELPIP General Tests – 7
- TOEFL iBT – 83
- Pearson Academic Tests – 60
Changes to IELTS requirements
Immigration Refugees and Citizenship (IRCC) continues to accept International English Language Test results for the Student Direct Stream program. Applicants should note the following changes to the IELTS requirements:
- Effective August 10, 2023, new Student Direct Stream applicants should achieve an overall band score of 6
- IELTS test score of 6 in each language ability, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing, for applications before August 10, 2023
- IELTS General Training test score of 6 in each language ability, including speaking, listening, reading, and writing, for applications before or after August 10, 2023
The changes to IELTS and IELTS General tests will be effective from August 10, 2023.
