The official announcement by the Immigration Minister on November 1, 2023, confirms that Canada will welcome 485,000 new immigrants in 2024 and 500,000 every year in 2025 and 2026.
Canada aims to control the number of new immigrants in the 2024-2026 Immigration Levels Plan by aiming at 485,000 new admissions in 2024. The targets for 2025 and 2026 will be 500,000 new immigrants each year. Canada will stabilize the new admissions at 500,000 in subsequent years.
There is no change in the targets for new immigrants in 2024 and 2025. The only new information in the Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026 is on 2026 targets, besides details on levels of new admissions in each immigration class and program.
The following are immigration targets for the main immigration programs
- Express Entry – 110,700 (2024), 117,500 (2025 and 2026 each)
- Provincial Nominee Program – 110,000 (2024), 120,000 (2025 and 2026 each)
- Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) – 32,000 (2024). 34,000 (2025 and 2026 each)
- Spousal and Children sponsorship – 82,000 (2024), 84,000 (2025 and 2026 each)
Canada needs to balance its economic growth objectives and challenges of healthcare, housing, and infrastructure. It explains why there is no change in the number of new immigrants Canada will welcome in 2024 and 2025. There is a status quo in the new Immigration Levels Plan for 2024 and 2025.
