BREAKING: Canada Creates History with the First-ever Express Entry Draw for Candidates with French Language Skills

The fourth consecutive Express Entry draw on July 7, 2023, was the first Francophone category-based draw, inviting 2,300 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 439 points.  

The following are highlights of the week’s Express Entry draws:

  • July 4, 2023 – All-program draw, 700 ITAs, CRS cut-off of 511
  • July 5, 2023 – STEM category-based draw, 500 ITAs, cut-off of 486
  • July 6, 2023 – Healthcare category-based draw, 1,500 ITAs, CRS cut-off of 463 
  • July 7, 2023 – Francophone category-based draw, 2,300 ITAs, a cut-off of 439

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted six rounds of Express Entry draws over two weeks, inviting 9,800 candidates. These invitation rounds included the first-ever category-based Express Entry draws for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), and Francophone categories.

Category-based draw focusing on French Language abilities 

The eligibility requirements for selection through the Express Entry category of strong French language proficiency with a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 7. The CLB 7 eligibility requirement is for French language skills that may or may not include English-language proficiency.  The unique category for candidates with French language proficiency aims to promote the French language outside the predominantly French province of Quebec. The move to welcome Francophone candidates through a dedicated category in the Express Entry system aims to boost the economy by attracting French-speaking newcomers outside of Quebec.
