The language proficiency criteria for the Alberta Tourism and Hospitality stream are more lenient. The minimum language proficiency requirement for the program is CLB 4. The equivalent IELTS bands for the language skills are:

  • Listening – 4.5 bands
  • Speaking – 4 bands
  • Writing – 4 bands
  • Reading – 3.5 bands

The new Alberta Tourism and Hospitality stream requires the applicant to be living in Alberta and mandates:

  • Valid job offer from an Alberta employer in the tourism and hospitality sector
  • Valid work permit with positive LMIA approval
  • Minimum six months of continuous work experience in qualifying occupations

Prospective immigrants willing to leverage the new steam need a minimum of Canadian high school education to qualify. Candidates must provide an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for academic qualification outside Canada.
