Alberta Puts a Temporary Pause on AAIP’s Alberta Opportunity Stream Application Intake

The Alberta government paused application intake for the Alberta Opportunity stream of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program on February 15, 2024, as a temporary measure.

The current pause on the Alberta Opportunity Stream’s application intake will not apply to the submissions of applications before February 15, 2024. It will be effective until further announcement.

The pause on application intake for the Alberta Opportunity stream will also affect draft applications in the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program’s portal and those where the payment of the final application fee is pending.

Alberta government will leverage the pause on application intake to prioritize its immigration nominations for meeting labor shortages across the main in-demand sectors like:

  • Technology
  • Healthcare
  • Agriculture
  • Tourism
  • Construction
  • Hospitality

The application intake pause on the Alberta Opportunities stream of AAIP will help Alberta address the existing application inventory.

Alberta plans to implement specific measures to optimize future application volumes and address program priorities. It will enable the province to ensure reasonable service standards for all streams of the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program.

Processing of applications under the Alberta Opportunities stream is outside of the Express Entry system because it is the base stream of the Alberta Advantage Nominee Program. Foreign workers in Alberta meeting eligibility requirements of academic history, employment duration, and language proficiency can benefit from the Alberta Opportunity stream.
